Game officials workshop in Tehran draws over 100 male and female participants of all ages

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - A Game officials workshop was held in Iran as part of the FIBA Regional Office - Asia’s commitment to improving the various aspects of the game.

Many young potential national referees, both male and female, took part in the five-day workshop (from 17-21 January) in Tehran where they were able to get a better understanding on how to improve their level of officiating.

The workshop drew over 100 participants of three groups, including FIBA game officials candidates, female game officials, and young male and female game officials.

Mr. Javad Davari, president of Basketball Federation Islamic Republic of Iran (IRIBF) said : "On behalf of myself and the refereeing team in Iran, I would like to appreciate the opportunity provided to have a more technical and constructive look at our talents and refereeing society."

During the course of the clinic, all participants went through rigorous assessment of skills as part of an important evaluation exercise to identify those referees with the most potential. On-court practical sessions were also organized to help the participants understand the tasks at hand to help them become FIBA licensed referees and understand how to tackle challenges during the games.

"What we received as feedback from referees and commissioners was positive and fruitful. We hope that we will educate more talented and professional members among our technical assets," said Fereydoun Salimian, Chief of Refereeing Department of Basketball Federation Islamic Republic of Iran (IRIBF).
