FIBA European Women's Basketball Summit

Providing training for players, coaches and referees alike, the FIBA European Women's Basketball Summit offers a unique opportunity to improve one's skill set in an international environment. The annual camp, previously run under the banner of FIBA Europe U15 Girls' Camp, is organized by FIBA in cooperation with the Slovenian Basketball Federation (KZS).

Whilst the young female players are put through practice drills, overseen by aspiring female coaches, as well as playing competitive games, officiated by up-and-coming female referees, the camp also allows them to bond away from the court with trips to the world-famous Postojna Cave or an afternoon on the Slovenian coastline.

The Summit includes a number of additional goals, asides from female player development. This coming together also offers the opportunity for stakeholders in the women’s basketball game to come together, and discuss the direction they envision taking the sport.

At the conclusion of the camp, a number of awards are handed out to the players, coaches and referees who excelled, including Most Valuable Player, Most Improved Player, All-Tournament Team, Coach of the Camp and Referee of the Camp.

The Camp was launched in 2007. In 2016, the camp celebrated its 10th anniversary. Over the last 15 years more than 1,330 participants attended the event, 47 NFs have participated with at least one person in the event. Only 3 countries have never participated in the Summit/Camp. The highest participation (135 persons) was recorded in the 2019 edition.

Over the years, some of the most renowned women's basketball players and coaches have shared their vast experience with the camp participants, including Slovenian basketball legend Bostjan Nachbar, Alba Torrens, Slovakian coaching legend Natalia Hejkova, and Italian EuroLeague Women veteran Raffaella Masciadri.

KEY FACTS ABOUT THE SUMMIT:

The FIBA Europe Women’s Summit/Camp is a development program (not an elite/performance event), fostering the exchange of knowledge and sharing experiences among the participants from across Europe.

➢ This is a unique event that since its launch in 2007 focuses exclusively on female participants with all European National Federations being eligible to participate.

➢ In 2007, as part of the FIBA Europe's Year of Women's Basketball, the first edition included U15 female players and coaches' participants. In 2008, a special training program for young female referees was added to the event which continues to this day.

➢ Each national federation was entitled to register 2 U15 female players, 1 female coach and 1 female referee. A requirement to participate is to have knowledge of English language.
