Joseph to discuss ''conflict resolution'' for referee webinar

Gold Coast (Australia) - The FIBA Oceania Referee Webinar returns on Wednesday (April 15) with Albert Joseph discussing "conflict resolution and problem-solving" for technical officials during a game.

Joseph, the Referee Manager for FIBA Oceania believes the webinar series is a great initiative for referees in the region to learn about various topics.

"This initiative provides an excellent opportunity for officials to both keep up to date and to enhance their skills. The Referee Department has selected a wide range of training and education topics," he shared.

With his vast experience of over 25 years as a referee coach, Joseph looks forward to sharing his knowledge in this webinar that will focus on "conflict resolution".

"This webinar will discuss ways in identifying problems, confronting them early and using effective communication techniques to resolve the issue," Joseph said.

"This is a key area for all officials to be able to identify a problem early and to work through a process to resolve the issue prior to it escalating further," he added.

Joseph shared that referees can apply their life skills in officiating a game and should ensure that the game is played on an even field.

"This training is to build upon your existing skills, that is the life skills you have already obtained and to use those skills whilst officiating basketball games," he said. "The main message from me is that we all have a responsibility to ensure the game is played fairly and in the spirit of fun, enjoyment and healthy competition."

The Referee workshop focused on conflict resolution and problem-solving by Albert Joseph is part of a series of online webinars organized by FIBA in the Gold Coast.
