Equipment & Venue Centre
Founded in 1993, the FIBA Equipment & Venue Centre was born from the belief that an increase in quantity and quality of worldwide sports premises would serve as a major catalyst for the growth and development of the sport of basketball.
It promotes the construction of basic indoor and outdoor facilities, while actively encouraging the refurbishment of older ones.
The FIBA Equipment & Venue Centre sets standards for basketball equipment and facilities, ensuring that they fulfil the strict requirements of high level basketball competitions. For the athletes, the media and partners, but also for all those who love the sport, whether they watch, practice and play or do all three.
The FIBA Equipment & Venue Centre produces publications, which provide technical assistance for those who practice the sport or organise its competitions. These include, among others, the Partners’ Guide 2018-2019 and the Guide to Basketball Facilities.
The objective is to attain a high standard of quality, safety and technology, for the athletes, for the public, as well as for the media, whose demands are ever-growing. This can only be obtained by a constant control and inspection of facilities and equipment.
The Equipment & Venue Centre appoints two levels of affiliated companies, "Partners" and "Associates". Both affiliations require identical testing and are granted the same rights in term of approval for use in FIBA competitions. Partners are presented here and associates are listed in the Partners' Guide here.
With the assistance of 90 partners and associates, involved in one or several of the approved products categories, the Equipment & Venue Centre provides norms for level 1, 2 and 3 competitions.
The partners and associates of the FIBA Equipment & Venue, whose products are approved by FIBA, provide the sport equipment in the following categories: Backboard Support Units, Wooden Floorings, Synthetic Floorings, Electronic Scoreboards, Electric and Electronic System, Video Systems, Seating Systems, Miscellaneous Products and Basketballs (basketball and 3x3 basketball).
The FIBA Equipment & Venue Centre also offers consulting services for sports venue design, as was for example the case for the construction of the Wukesong Basketball Arena, built for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Basketball Tournament.
