Harrison to present on ''Ball Control and Ball Movement''

Gold Coast (Australia) - The FIBA Oceania Youth Coaching Webinar continues on Tuesday (May 19) with Caleb Harrison presenting "Ball Control and Body Movement".

Harrison, currently the General Manager of the Canterbury Rams in the New Zealand Basketball League shared that he will be using the World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC) curriculum for his presentation.

"We will cover ideas and concepts around teaching body movement and ball control with a games approach to teaching. These topics and skills will come directly from the WABC curriculum," Harrison said.

"We want to teach the curriculum in a fun, inclusive and purposeful way that is fundamental to all stages of youth development," he added.

Harrison expressed his excitement with the upcoming session and also hopes to develop new and innovative concepts with the participants.

"I am looking forward to stimulating some thought-provoking ideas, with clinics like this it is always fun learning and understanding how coaches from different parts of the world do things," he said.

"I think the most interesting thing will be exploring ways we can come up with game-like activities where the body movement and ball control skills emerge," he added.

The Indiana State University graduate shared his experience with coaching Youth Basketball, which will serve him well in his presentation.

"I have over 15 years of coaching youth basketball including New Zealand Junior National Teams, US College Teams & my experience currently as a professional team general manager with the Canterbury Rams allows me to oversee our Junior Academy programs," he said.

"I am also studying the internet to take advantage of all of the video footage of athletes doing these skills both correctly & incorrectly, these examples will be helpful for their critical thinking skills," he added.

The Youth Coaching workshop by Caleb Harrison is part of a series of online webinars organized by FIBA in the Gold Coast.
