Gold Coast (Australia) - The FIBA Techincal Officials Webinar series will resume on Wednesday (May 20) with the 'Basic Statistic Definitions' course and will be presented by Trish Nicholls.

Nicholls, a FIBA licensed statistician is keen to focus on explaining the growing importance of statistics in the last couple of years and how it has helped the game grow in her presentation.

"Over recent years statisticians have become a more vital role in the implementation of computerized statistics. The leagues can capture the information courtside and almost immediately have it uploaded to the internet for fans to view anywhere in the world," explained Nichols.

With over 20 years as a statistician, the Australian boasts vast experience in her field with stints as a technical official in the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and the Pacific Games.

"I have been a stats trainer in Australia for over 15 years and been a FIBA Trainer in stats since its implementation. I have trained in several of the Oceania countries including Guam, Fiji, New Caledonia, Samoa, and Papua New Guinea," she said.

"It has been a passion of mine for a long time and I will continue to teach and share my knowledge to the best of my ability," she added.

The course will focus on the basic definitions of statistics and expects the participants to be able to practice and use their knowledge in the future.

"I expect them to learn about basic definitions of the stats terminology, and in the second stage how to set up a game on the FIBA Live stats program," Nicholls said.

"This will allow the statisticians to practice once we have the opportunity to go back to the live games and collect stats courtside."

The Technical Official workshop by Trish Nicholls is part of a series of online webinars organized by FIBA in the Gold Coast.
