FIBA Americas to hold second Youth Development Program Elite Camp in Buenos Aires

SAN JUAN – The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in the Americas announced that the second Youth Development Program Elite Camp, will be held at the Centro Nacional de Alto Rendimiento Deportivo (CENARD) and Obras Sanitarias in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on April 11-14, 2019.

The second edition of the Youth Development Program Elite Camp will feature 24 players from Argentina, Chile and Uruguay that will take place in CENARD.

A Camp for Young Referees will be simultaneously hosted by Obras Sanitarias during the same dates.

Our goal is to use the resources of the regional office to help in the identification of young talent and then to enable these players to maximize their potential always with the mindset of going back to represent their countries at the biggest of stages. We are committed to helping the national federations grow and giving opportunities for these young athletes to develop is a priority in our strategy. The future is now.”, said the FIBA Americas Executive Director, Carlos Alves.

Participant arrivals will begin on April 11. The first day of the camp will feature Anthropometric Measurements and Physical Evaluations as well as a Welcoming Lecture for all participants. The participants will get to see the Argentinian National League match-up between Obras Sanitarias and Ciclista Olimpico.

The Camp will feature Skill Development sections, lectures on nutrition, game psychology, team practices and 5-on-5 games.

The next 5 players to integrate the FIBA Americas Elite Squad will be announced on the last day of the Camp.

A press conference to launch the Elite Camp in Buenos Aires will be held at the CENARD on April 12.

The Youth Elite Camp falls under the umbrella of one of FIBA Americas’ Key Pillars, the Youth Development Program that has the following objectives:
• Seek and Develop the Elite Young Players in the Americas with a view to have these participants elevating the quality of their National Teams by the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 and the Paris Olympic Games 2024
• Establish a process for tracking and monitoring young talent in their Evolution and Progression in the Americas Region
• Work hand in hand with Key Stakeholders and National Federations Identifying the Talent

The Program, that will be executed through individual camps and development of young talent, is structured into three pillars: growing access of basketball to young athletes, giving more opportunities for them to develop their game and creating a platform for the elite youth players of the Americas.

Focusing on the development of youth and the development of basketball with a vision of the future, the camps will also offer development opportunities for coaches and referees. (Registration of coaches that want to attend the camp's activities is limited and should be done through the Argentinean Basketball Confederation - CABB. On the last day of the camp, on April 14th, there will be an open clinic for all the coaches registered through the national federation.)

Campinas hosted the first of several camps to be held in the Americas. Future FIBA Youth Elite Camps are scheduled for Central America and the Caribbean, culminating in a FIBA Americas Regional Camp and World Camp. In each camp there will be players selected to be a part of the Elite Squad, along with the first five from Campinas, to represent FIBA Americas in exhibition games to be organized during key dates in the international basketball calendar.

Marcio Henrique Da Costa, Matheus Leoni Brito, Guilherme Carvalho, Daniel Ifedi Ferreira and Bruno Henrique Pedro were selected for the FIBA Americas Elite Squad within the 24 participating players in the camp that was held from December 13-17 in the city of Campinas.
