2020 Class of FIBA Hall of Fame: Agnes Nemeth

MIES (Switzerland) - Agnes Nemeth, the all-time record holder for appearances with the Hungarian national team is now a proud member of the FIBA Hall of Fame Class of 2020.

Nemeth and eight other players - Steve Nash (Canada), Isabelle Fijalkowski (France), Mieczyslaw Lopatka (Poland), Park Shin-ja (Korea), Modestas Paulauskas (Lithuania), Kenichi Sako (Japan), Alexander Volkov (Ukraine) and Jure Zdovc (Slovenia) - are being enshrined as part of the Class of 2020, as well as legendary coaches Ruben Magnano (Argentina), Svetislav Pesic (Serbia) and Tara Van Derveer (USA).

The center was a dominant figure for her country and showed immense longevity on the international stage by stepping out an incredible 367 times in a Hungary vest. 

She was was present at no fewer than eight editions of the FIBA Women's EuroBasket between 1980 and 1997. Nemeth also got to collect a bronze medal on four separate ocassions, averaging more than 20 points per tournament for her team across those quartet of podium finishes.

Other highlights in a national team jersey came when she went to the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. Six years later she returned to the Soviet Union to participate in the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup and poured in more than 17 points per game at the event.

Nemeth attained success at club level, including a memorable Ronchetti Cup winners medal in 1983 for BSE ESMA Budapest as her team squeezed past Spartak Moscow 72-70 in a thrilling title game. 

Domestically, she also won the Hungarian Championship twice, with personal recognition coming by way of being crowed Hungarian Player of the Year three times.

Further recognition of her exploits were also attained when she was announced as the European Player of the Year in 1985.
