Which teams are playing the Basketball Africa League Semi-Finals?

KIGALI (Rwanda) - It started with eight teams, but the 2022 Basketball Africa League (BAL) playoffs is now down to the last four teams.

After the Quarter-Finals, played over two days, Forces Armees et Police FAP (Cameroon), Petro de Luanda (Angola), US Monastir (Tunisia) and Zamalek (Egypt) remain in contention for the title of the BAL season two.

Petro de Luanda, who qualified automatically for this BAL season, outscored Association Sportive de Sale (Morocco) 102-89 in the first Quarter-Finals game on Saturday, May 21.

Later in the day, FAP caused the biggest upset in the BAL post-season, so far, after beating hosts Rwanda Energy Group (REG) 66-63 in front of an almost full capacity Kigali Arena.

On Sunday, May 22, the 2021 BAL runners-up US Monastir destroyed Cape Town Tigers (South Africa) 106-67 while defending champions Zamalek edged out Seydou Legacy Athetique Club SLAC (Guinea) 66-49.

In  Wednesday's first Semi-Finals, Petro de Luanda are going up against FAP. Later in the day, US Monastir face Zamalek in a rematch of last season's BAL final.

Petro de Luanda finished third last season, while Zamalek beat Monastir in the Championship Game,

FAP is the only team that reached this phase of the competition that has been through the FIBA-run Road to BAL qualifiers.

The Cameroonian champions finished 6-0 in the qualifiers held in their home-court in Yaounde in October and December 2021. During the Nile Conference in Cairo last month, FAP finished fourth (2-3), but, in the post-season, they managed to upset REG, the winners of the Sahara Conference that took place in March in Dakar.

US Monastir reached the semifinals on the back of a 5-1 mark. Prior to the QuarterFinals the Tunisian outfit won four of five Sahara Conference games, but lost to REG to finish second in the group.

Petro de Luanda closed their Nile Conference with 4-1 after a loss to host Zamalek. But the two-time FIBA Africa Champions Cup improved to 5-1 ahead of the Semi-Finals.

Meanwhile, Zamalek remain as the only team that has never tasted defeat in this BAL season. After winning the inaugural BAL with a perfect 6-0, they are now 12-0 overall.
