PARIS - Basketball in France continues to grow and have more and more players. That was the news at the French Basketball Federation's (FFBB) General Assembly in Saint Etienne over the weekend.

The FFBB revealed it has a record 661,025 player licenses in 2017, up from 641,367 last year and nearly 200,000 more than 2012.

It also reported that the women's game continues to grow, as made evident by the 189,027 licensed players which means basketball the number one team sport for women.

The federation made the most from having its budget for 2016-17 continue to rise, reaching 32.1million euros, a significant leap from 2012-13 when the amount was 22.6million euros.

There was also continued success on the court in 2017 with eight medals won by French teams.
