BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The city of Bengaluru in India hosted a successful game officials clinic from 7-9 May, 2022.

The three-day clinic, organized by the FIBA Regional Office Asia in coordination with Basketball Federation of India (BFI), attracted 32 participants from all over India.

The clinic focused on the overall upgrade of the referees, commissioners and table officials to officiate at an elite level aided by educational video clips and practical demonstrations. The participants also went through rigorous assessment of skills as part of an important evaluation exercise to identify those referees with the most potential.

“Basketball has been progressing rapidly with the developmental process requiring planning and its implementation towards perfection. Scientific training has brought about higher standards requiring referees to match these standards to bring about improvements in their techniques which requires uniformity and cohesion among the officials to referee one play situation at a time  in order to maintain consistency and flow of the game, said BFI president Dr. K. Govindraj.

“While appreciating the initiative to conduct referee clinics as a step in the right direction, the clinic has provided  inputs with in depth analysis and clarity  which in turn has provided insights to  bring about uniformity in officiating at all levels, he added.

“The clinic turned out to be great opportunity for the existing FIBA Officials and the upcoming  prospects to elevate their level of officiating to the next level of modern officiating, added Mr. Norman Isaac, chairman of the BFI technical commission.

This latest clinic follows another successful one that took place in Singapore between 26-28 April, 2022.

The development workshops are part of the Regional Office’s continuous efforts to improve the different departments of its national federations, including the game officials, who are considered an integral part of basketball games.
