Game officials clinic in Singapore a big hit

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - As part of its commitment to improving all aspects of the game, the FIBA Regional Office Asia successfully organized a game officials clinic in Singapore last week.

A total of 34 game officials attended the clinic which was held between 26-28 April.

During the course of the three-day clinic, all participants went through rigorous assessment of skills as part of an important evaluation exercise to identify those referees with the most potential.

The clinic was also an opportunity for the Regional Office to scout and identify potential FIBA and national referees in Singapore.

“It was an eye-opener for them and they acknowledged that this clinic has value added to their officiating knowledge and technique," said president of Basketball Association of Singapore (BAS), Dr. Koh Koon Tech.

“BAS plans to organize more high level Referee Clinics in the future to level up our officiating standard to support local and international basketball programmes. On behalf of everyone from the Basketball Association Singapore, we thank FIBA Regional Office - Asia for the support in helping us in pursuing sports excellence as a community," he added.

On-court practical sessions were also organized to help the participants understand the tasks at hand to help them become FIBA licensed referees and understand how to tackle challenges during the games.

“This has been one of the best program for Referees in Singapore in recent years," said Mr. Glen Chua, Chairman - Technical Committee at BAS.

“Over the 3 days of intensive training, our Technical Officials have managed to uplift the standards which will eventually contribute to the local Basketball scene. We thank the FIBA Regional Office - Asia for the support and we hope to see more partnerships in the future on the development of Basketball," he concluded.
