Game Directors workshop held ahead of FIBA WASL Season 2

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office-Asia organized a workshop for Game Directors ahead of the new West Asia Super League (WASL) season.

The seminar was held at the Warwick Stone 55 Hotel in Zalka on Thursday, aimed to prepare the Game Directors in effectively managing and delivering games with the club competition's 2023-24 festivities opening on October 16.

Participants also had the opportunity to visit the Nouhad Nawfal Stadium in Zouk Mikael for further explanations about their roles and responsibilities.

Mahmood Taqawi from inaugural FIBA WASL Final 8 Champions Manama, one of those who attended, believes that the workshop will not just help Bahrain in hosting FIBA WASL games better but bring improvements in organizing their tournaments on home soil as well.

"The implementation of standards set by FIBA benefits me personally and also benefits Bahraini basketball in numerous ways," he said.

"We face many challenges in organizing matches in the Kingdom of Bahrain. And attending workshops such as this one is crucial for discussing these obstacles, facilitating matters, and developing organizational aspects in the West Asia Super League and also in local tournaments," he added.

Karine Naji from defending FIBA WASL-West Asia League champions Al Riyadi, on the other hand, felt glad to have taken part in the refresher course of sorts.

"It was a successful and fruitful workshop to refresh our memories on FIBA standards for WASL games," he stated. "And at the same time, it was good to meet the other GDs in the region."

Mohammad Soltan from WASL-West Asia League Season 1 runners-up Shahrdari Gorgan, lastly, hopes that they would all be able to provide the "perfect" WASL experience in the league's second season after picking up important lessons from the program.

"On behalf of the I.R. Iran Basketball Federation, I would like to appreciate the opportunity provided by FIBA Asia to have a more technical and constructive look at our basketball community," he stated.
"I hope that we will make the perfect experience in WASL for basketball lovers," he continued.

The success of the workshop should help the participating teams better prepared for Season 2, which is crucial in FIBA WASL's goal of establishing its presence in the region for the long haul.
