FIBA holds annual South American Assembly

MONTEVIDEO (Uruguay) – FIBA held the annual assembly for its sub-zone, Consubasket, in South America this past Tuesday, March 12th in Montevideo, Uruguay. The meeting is part of annual assemblies which FIBA via its Regional office in the Americas conducts across the Americas zone. The National Basketball Federations members of Consubasquet were present at the meeting together with key FIBA Authorities including FIBA Secretary General, Mr. Andreas Zagklis, Mr. Zoran Radovic, Sr. Director, President of FIBA in the Americas, Mr. Fabián Borro, and the Executive Director of FIBA in the Americas, Mr. Carlos Alves.

During the meeting, the attendees discussed key topics related to the promotion and develop of basketball in South America, included but not limited to:

  • Updated on strategy and key priorities for FIBA from 2023-2027 in South America
  • Empowering of National Federations and growth of club competition for both men and women
  • 3x3 Competitions and the growth of the discipline across the South America
  • Youth Development and key initiatives to give elite athletes more competitions.

President of FIBA in the Americas, Mr. Borro said, South America is pivotal for the development of FIBA. We must align our strategies across so all 9 National Federation work from one development platform. The regional office has been working on this integration and we had an excellent meeting in Montevideo where we exchange ideas and plans. I feel super confident Consubasquet with its tradition and know-how will bring a lot of strength to the development of our sport in the Americas.
