ABIDJAN (Cote d'Ivoire) - The basketball season is in full swing across the continent. FIBA.basketball brings you the latest news from different parts of Africa. Here’s a look at what’s trending in African basketball.

MALI AND ALGERIA CLINCH 2024 ALL-AFRICAN GAMES 3x3 GOLD MEDALS

Mali's women clinched gold after beating counterparts Nigeria 21-11. The Democratic Republic of Congo won the bronze medal.

In the men's competition, North Africans Algeria captured gold after beating out hosts Ghana, while Uganda secured the bronze medal.

PETRO DE LUANDA ADVANCE TO 2024 ANGOLA CUP FINAL DESPITE LOSS TO CPPL

Angolan club Petro de Luanda advanced to the final of the 2024 Angola Cup on Saturday despite losing the semifinal-second leg to Casa Pessoal do Porto do Lobito (CPPL) 77-74.

The win over CPPL was their first over Petro. Petro, who recently parted ways with Brazilian coach Jose Neto.

Petro advanced to the final because of a better win aggregate and will take on Inter Clube who beat former African champions Primeiro de Agosto in the two-game semifinal series.

BAPOO'S LEADS ECOLE TO VICTORY OVER FAP

Cameroon’s Elite Senior men's championship saw Ecole de Basketball beat FAP 53-50. Ecole's Albert Bapo’o top scored with 16 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds.

 

AL AHLY AND SMOUHA U14 TEAMS CLAIM EGYPT CUP

Al Ahly U14 boys and Smouha U14 girls were crowned Egypt's Republic Championship Cup winners over the weekend. The Smouha U14 girls beat Alexandria Sporting Club U14 56-42.

KENYA 3x3 WOMEN PROGRESS TO SEMIFINALS OF THE FRENCH PRO LEAGUE

Kenya women's 3X3 team made it to the semifinals of the French Pro League. The East Africans beat France 20-18.

 

BAGAYOGO LEADS MALI TO VICTORY OVER GUINEA

Mali beat West African neighbours Guinea 97-64 in the U18 Tournoi de L Aimite or Friendship Tournament. Mali’s Sekou Bagayogo led with 28 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. 

OCHEREOBIA MAKES A RETURN TO AS DOUANES FOR BAL CAMPAIGN

Senegalese club AS Douane have signed Nigerian player Michael Ochereobia for Season 4 of the Basketball Africa League.

Ochereobia returns for his second stint at AS Douanes after playing for the Senegal giants in the BAL last year. 

U16 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TIPS-OFF IN SOUTH AFRICA 

Basketball South Africa's national championship for girls and boys U16 began on Monday in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

The tournament is earmarked at identifying talent for the country's junior national teams.
