10th anniversary brings record turnout in Postojna

POSTOJNA, Slovenia - The 10th anniversary of FIBA’s annual U15 Girl’s Camp, once again held in conjunction with the Slovenian Basketball Federation in Postojna came to a successful conclusion on 9 July.

Proof was once again in the numbers of the popularity of the camp with another year of record attendees. This year 60 players were accompanied by 33 referees and 30 coaches, representing 36 of FIBA’s European Federations.

Over the course of the camp, the aspiring teenagers were given the opportunity to learn from some of the biggest past and present names in the women’s game including Slovakian coaching legend Natalia Hejkova, Italian and EuroLeague Women veteran Raffaella Masciadri and Rio-bound referee Anne Panther. For the German referee, it was a case of coming full circle, having once herself been a participant in the camp.

Long-serving Italian stalwart Raffaella Masciadri was able to pass on her vast experience to the wide-eyed youngsters

Following a week of skills and drills, improvements could be seen in all of the participants, best exemplified in one of the camp’s most popular activities, the 3x3 Tournament, won by Team Nikeyz, consisting of Corrina Schimik (AUT); Alexandra Ciuttiova (SVK); Lotte Sant (NED); and Olivia Thomson (WAL).
