CASERTA (Lega A) - In his long and famous career, Antonello Riva poured in the points in Italian basketball for club, and country.

So many, in fact, that he holds the record of 14,399 points in the Italian league.

Having worn the Azzurri shirt 213 times, he ended up with 3,785 points – making him Italy’s all-time leading scorer.

Now 48, Riva is going to try to score big as the new sports director at Pepsi Caserta.

The club made the appointment this week.

Riva arrives at Caserta, having served as general manager of Lega Due side Veroli the previous two seasons.

The great averaged 16 points per game as Italy went undefeated at the 1983 European Championship and captured gold.

At the 1990 FIBA World Championship, Riva averaged 30.2 points per contest as the Azzurri finished ninth.

The following year in Rome, he poured in 14 per game as Italy won the silver medal at the EuroBasket.
