CHN - Fines for Chinese clubs, Jones departs

YUNNAN (CBA) - Chinese disciplinary bosses have slapped Dontae Jones, his club Yunnan and opponents Shanxi with small fines after the ugly scenes which marred last week's game between the two sides.

Jones, whose physical style of play incensed fans, had to be restrained after the game but still ended up throwing a plastic bottle into the stands after his team's 130-100 defeat.

He has decided to leave the country and return to the United States.

The CBA said in a statement: "We have decided to fine CBA Yunnan Honghe player Dontae Jones 10,000RMB (£660). Yunnan Honghe Club is fined 10,000 RMB (£660) because of the failure to control the players and a lack of management.

"Yunnan Honghe Club must learn from this and strengthen its control and education over the players, particularly international players.

"As a member of the CBA, international players should follow the regulations of the league, respect the players and submit to the decisions of the referee. If a similar case happens again, we will deal it seriously, according to the rules of the league."

Shanxi were also punished with a fine of 5,000RMB (£330).

The statement continued: "Shanxi was punished before due to some supporters' throwing objects onto the court. During this game, there was still some unwise fans who were throwing fruit skins, popcorn, lighters, etc, onto the court..."

The CBA said it urged Shanxi to "strengthen the security".
