NBA - Wade scorches Suns (+ videos)

NEW YORK (NBA) - The Miami Heat are showing signs of life.

Dwyane Wade, one of Team USA's captains at the 2006 FIBA World Championship, scored 31 points and Shaquille O'Neal added 18 and 11 rebounds as the Miami Heat held off the Phoenix Suns for a 117-113 victory on Monday.

Forwards Dorell Wright and Udonis Haslem also posted double-doubles, combining for 37 points and 24 rebounds as the Heat shot 59% (47-of-80) from the field en route to their second straight win after a five-game losing streak.

In Philadelphia, Willie Green scored 20 points and Andre Miller chipped in 17 and 12 assists as the 76ers recorded a third straight triumph with a 100-88 victory over the Houston Rockets.

Bonzi Wells contributed 24 points and 10 rebounds off the bench and China national team center Yao Ming was held to just 12 on three-of-11 shooting for the Rockets, who have dropped four of their last five road games.

At Madison Square Garden, Germany's Dirk Nowitzki scored a season high 36 points and Josh Howard added 22 to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 99-89 victory over the New York Knicks.

Dallas shot 54% (36-of-67) and defeated the Knicks for the 11th time in 12 meetings after surviving a comeback attempt that reduced a 23-point lead to 90-83 with just over four minutes remaining following a basket by Zach Randolph.

In the Eastern Conference Southeast Division, Dwight Howard had 18 rebounds to go with his 14 points but the Atlanta Hawks led nearly throughout en route to a 98-87 victory over the Orlando Magic.

Josh Smith had 25 points and 16 rebounds and Joe Johnson scored 24 for Atlanta (10-10), who won their third straight game and captured their 10th victory prior to January for the first time since 2001-02, while the Magic absorbed their second straight defeat.

In Sacramento, John Salmons scored 22 points and Brad Miller chipped in 17 and 10 rebounds as the Kings held on to defeat the struggling Milwaukee Bucks 96-93.
