FIBA Africa Board calls for more involvement in the preparation of the third window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers

ABIDJAN, Cote d'Ivoire - The Board of FIBA Africa held its annual meeting in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire on Friday and Saturday (March 23-24), and reviewed the activities that took place in 2017 and approved programmes for 2018.

The board took key decisions during this two-day meeting, and called for more involvement in the preparation of the third window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers.

Competitions:
FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers

Following the success of the first two windows of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers, the Board took a in-depth view at the achievements, and committed for more involvement during the June-July window .

Continental competitions
The Board:
- Awarded Mali the hosting rights of the FIBA U18 African Championship 2018. The event will take place from August 17 - 26, 2018 while the FIBA U18 Women's African Championship 2018 will be played in Mozambique from July 29 - August 5, 2018
- Adopted the inception of the "AfroCan" a new continental competition
- Adopted the creation of "AfroLeague" which is the new system of the FIBA Africa Champions Cup.

Development and promotion of 3x3
FIBA Africa's National Federations have been encouraged to become more involved in the promotion of 3x3 by organizing more 3x3 tournaments in their respective countries.
The Board:
- Confirmed the organization of the 2nd edition of the FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup in Togo from November 9 – 11, 2018
- Decided that the ‘‘Tournoi International Salamatou Maiga’’, which is at its 3rd edition, will become the FIBA 3x3 Africa U18 Cup and will take place every year in Bamako, Mali.

Support for National Federations Development
The Board:
- Invited Sub-Zones and National Federations to accelerate the registration of accredited venues
- Invited Sub-Zones and National Federations to communicate more about their activities.

Finally, the Board:
- Informed zone presidents of the new strategy in order to strengthen coaches' skills through three new programmes (Family, Target 1 and Target 2).

FIBA
