2016 Pacific champions Guam ready to take on Asia

Guam - 3x3 regulars Guam Basketball are banking on their mix of size and shooting prowess to get them through FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup Qualifying tipping off today.

The men from Guam face some stiff competition, landing in Group B against Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran and Oceania rivals Samoa - with only the top placed team making it through to the main draw competition.

It's a tough position to be in, with only one loss potentially being the difference between making it through to the main draw or returning home to Guam.  But it is a challenge the men from Guam are well prepared to undertake.

"Guam have put together a good team for this competition. They are a young team, but experienced at international level" commented FIBA Oceania Development Manager Annie La Fleur. "Both Galloway and Hechanova are experienced 3x3 players at international level. They represented Guam at the Oceania championships in 2016 where the guys won the gold medal against some tough opposition"

The Galloway and Hechanova that La Fleur refers to are Jonathan Galloway and Darren Hechanova, two members of this years Guam team.  They will be joined by Earvin Jose and young gun Takumi Simon.

The qualifying rounds will take place from April 27-29th, with the main draw running from the 29th - May 1st.  All information for the event can be found here.
