Ex-Bamberg boss Fleming takes German reins

HAGEN (EuroBasket) - Germany have installed Chris Fleming as the coach of their national team.

The former Brose Baskets Bamberg boss has taken the reins from Emir Mutapcic, who led the side on an interim basis last summer in a successful qualifying campaign for EuroBasket 2015.

Fleming, who played professionally in Germany for Artland before becoming the club’s coach and leading them to glory in the national cup, then landed one of the most prestigious jobs in the country.

Bamberg put him in charge and he steered the club to four straight championships in the German top flight.

Fleming also led the team in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague.

He left Bamberg at the end of last season.

"I am very happy that I get to work as the national team coach and wish to thank DBB for the great confidence that they have in me," Fleming said in a statement published on the German Basketball Federation website.

"I am convinced that this team has huge potential.

"My first course of action will be to present a well-prepared team in Berlin at EuroBasket 2015.

"In the coming weeks and months I will have a lot of talks with the players and their clubs."

Berlin will be one of the host cities for the group stages of the EuroBasket following FIBA Europe’s decision to relocate the tournament from Ukraine earlier this year.

Fleming and Germany will discover who their first-round opponents will be on 8 December when the draw for the tournament is held at Disneyland Paris.

The new coach has been presented with a two-year contract.
