Universo and Flamengo

RIO DE JANEIRO (Liga Nacional de Basquete) - Universo/BRB and Flamengo Rio de Janeiro were in a share of first place following Sunday's results.

Universo crushed Londrina 91-76 behind a combined 50 points by Guilherme Giovannoni and Arthur Luiz.

Universo took a 25-16 lead at the end of the first quarter and stayed in control in the second frame for a 48-38 halftime lead. And they used of their depth to maintain control after the break, taking the win to improve to 19-5.

Flamengo have the same record after pummelling Assis 95-60. National team guard Marcelinho Machado had 30 points while Hélio added 19. Flamengo dominated the first quarter 25-11 and never looked back.

Meanwhile, Minas Tenis remain in third place in the table despite losing to Joinville 88-87. André scored 30 points and Jefferson Sobral 20 for the winners. Chris Jeffries led Minas with 23 points and Facundo Sucatzky chipped in with 17.

Paulistano guard Fernando Penna of Paulistano recorded the first triple-double in league history with 23 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds to help his team see off Araraquara 110-106.

In other games, Bauru dominated Sao Jose 104-79 and Pinheiros edged Franca 78-77.
