The Czech intimidator

ISTANBUL (Euroleague/EuroBasket) - Jan Vesely has been one of European basketball's high-flying talents for several years, since he burst onto the scene with Partizan Belgrade in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague .

In that 2008-09 campaign, Vesely began to wow the crowds with his defense and ability to run on the floor and finish fastbreaks.

In 2015, there may not be a better big man in the Euroleague than Vesely when it comes to his dynamic and powerful transition game.

Everyone witnessed it at EuroBasket 2013, when he teamed up with Tomas Satoransky and nearly led the Czechs out of the opening round, and everyone is seeing it now in Istanbul, where he is giving Fenerbahce Ulker fans genuine hope that this could be their year to reach the Final Four and challenge for the title.

The 24-year-old forward was at his best in the latest round of the Euroleague Top 16, dunking his way to 14 points as Fener beat CSKA Moscow, 81-75.

His late slam gave Fener a 73-71 lead and put them on the way to victory.

Against a star-studded CSKA side that now includes Andrei Kirilenko following his recent return to Russia, Vesely thrived.

He was thrilled about traveling to Moscow, and even happier after the final buzzer.

Czech Republic coach Ronen Ginzburg is eager for Vesely to return to the national team fold after the star missed the qualification campaign.

Vesely will bring a dimension to the Czechs they desperately need, an intimidation factor, when they travel to Riga to play in the Group Phase of the EuroBasket against Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Belgium and Ukraine.

He has blocked 23 shots.

"Vesely can give us a lot and can change us," Ginzburg said to FIBA.com.

"He’s a Euroleague player and an NBA player."

If there is a chink in the armor for Vesely, it's a bad one.

He is shooting 42.6 per cent at the free-throw line, a deficiency that he needs to find a cure for if he is ever going to be a go-to man for his teams.

Make no mistake, though. Vesely is in a good place right now.

In the NBA, he never got the playing time that he craved while now, he is playing big minutes again in the Euroleague.

He is excited to be at Fener and that was plain to see after their handed CSKA just their second defeat of the season.

"I think we did a great job fighting under both baskets, and we got the win, so everyone is happy," he said.

"Everybody is just trying to do our jobs and fight for the win. This is a team win."
