Abrines torches Olimpia Milano

MILAN (Euroleague) - Alex Abrines didn't play much for Spain in their disappointing FIBA Basketball World Cup.

He saw a total of just 30 minutes of action and failed to get off the bench in the tournament hosts's 65-52 Quarter-Final defeat to France.

At least the youngster got a taste of the big time.

There is little doubt that moving forward, he will be a vital player for the national side as it competes in next year's EuroBasket and tries to qualify for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

On Thursday night, the 21-year-old hardly put a foot wrong for Barcelona in their 78-63 Turkish Airlines Euroleague romp at Olimpia Milano.

Abrines connected on all five of his shots from the arc and finished with a game-high 21 points.

He drilled three of his three-pointers in the first half, when the Catalan club raced into a 45-32 advantage.

"I felt like I could make everything," said the 1.98m native of Palma de Mallorca.

"After I scored the first three-pointer, everything went the right way. We did a great job."

Abrines had endured a tough shooting night the first time out in the Euroleague this season against Bayern Munich, missing all three of his attempts from long range.

That night has so far been the only one in which he has been off target.

In three Spanish Liga Endesa games, Abrines has sizzled, connecting on 10 of his 12 attempts (83.3 percent) from three-point land.

He is averaging a team-high 13.3 points per game.

Abrines will be back in action in the Liga Endesa on Sunday at Gipuzkoa Basket in San Sebastian.
