ITA - Benetton Treviso's Blatt mulls over coaching options

TREVISO (Lega A) - Benetton Treviso coach David Blatt is still uncertain about his future.

Blatt, who led the club to the Italian title two seasons ago and this year steered them to Coppa Italia glory, could be on his way to a new team after a huge points deduction for sporting fraud caused the club to miss the play-offs and killed their chance of playing in next season's Euroleague.

"I could remain in Italy," Blatt said. "I would like to continue to coach in this league and it wouldn´t be a problem for me.

"I have other alternatives that I cannot mention, some of which are from European clubs.

"For the time being, my heart is in Treviso and I want to take several days to decide on my future."

The Treviso club's new general manager, Marco Atripaldi, said over the weekend he hoped Blatt would remain.

"I will meet Atripaldi later this week and we will take a decision," Blatt said.

"Benetton will continue forward with or without me. I am very touched that club president Gilberto Benetton has given me the opportunity to continue but we will have to wait and see what comes out in our next meetings with the club.

"The club´s future in Europe is still unclear due to the situation that happened at the end of the season and which everyone knows about."

Leading players like Greek international Nikos Zisis are preparing to leave because they want to compete in the Euroleague - Europe's top club competition.

Benetton are still hoping to take part in the ULEB Cup.

"The situation in the team has changed," he said.

"The absence from next season´s Euroleague has certainly made an impact. But we will have to wait and see what the situation is."

Blatt is to coach Russia at EuroBasket 2007 in Spain.
