ITA – Gigli, 15 others to join Recalcati at March training camp

ROME (FIP) - Italy do not play in the EuroBasket 2009 Additional Qualifying Round until August 5 when they go up against France in their first game.

Azzurri coach Carlo Recalcati is already hard at work putting the pieces together to give the Italians their best chance against Les Bleus - the side most people expect to win Group A and go on to reach the Final Round.

Recalcati has named 16 of his Italian-based players that he wants for a training camp for March 16-17 in Domegge di Cadore.

Among those called are Angelo Gigli, a key member of the 2006 FIBA World Championship and EuroBasket 2007 squads.

Gigli, who plays for Lottomatica Roma, missed last summer's qualifying campaign through injury.

A pair of his Roma teammates, Jacopo Giachetti and Luigi Datome, have also been called to the camp.

Luca Lechthaler of defending Lega A champions and Coppa Italia winners Montepaschi Siena has also been named.
