EUROCUP - PAOK fall in EuroCup OT thriller against CSKA-VVS Samara

THESSALONIKI (EuroCup) - Virtuoso performances by Israel international Yaniv Green and American Alex Scales helped fire CSK-VVS Samara to a 73-65 overtime triumph over PAOK in the EuroCup on Tuesday.

Green, a power forward/center, had six of his game-high 25 points in the extra period and he also pulled down 14 rebounds while guard Scales finished with 24 points as the Samara club improved to 2-1 in Qualifying Round Group A while PAOK dropped to 0-3.

Meanwhile, Rafael Araujo of Brazil scored 18 points to lead Spartak St Petersburg to a 63-58 victory over Olympia in Greece.

Olympia's Marios Batis connected from behind the three-point arc for a 51-43 advantage late in the third quarter, but a tap-in right at the end of period by Stanislav Sotnikov cut the deficit to 52-47 and stole the momentum for the visitors.

Araujo followed with consecutive jump shots at the start of the fourth quarter and Milovan Rakovic added a jumper to cap the 8-0 run and put the Russian outfit in front at 53-52.

Spartak took the lead for good when their veteran Anton Yudin drilled a three-ball and Dmitri Nikolaev hit a jump shot for a 59-54 advantage.

The win improved Spartak to 1-2 and dropped Olympia to 2-1.

Cherkaski Mavpy also won for the first time in the Qualifying Round, holding on for a 90-88 victory at Turkish outfit Banvit, who lost for the third straight time.

KK Zagreb gave recently-appointed coach Zeljko Pavlicevic, the man who coached Japan at the 2006 FIBA World Championship, the perfect start in the EuroCup as the Croatian side won over Proteas EKA AEL 82-77.
