MIES (Switzerland) - The complete 16-team fields have been finalized for both FIBA U17 Skills Challenges 2020 following the completion of Regional Qualifiers in Africa, Americas, Asia and Europe.  

After over 130 matchups played from August 11-16, the last eight places in the men's Global Challenge and a further seven in the women's event were claimed by the top teams in the Qualifiers, which in total featured 56 teams representing 30 different National Federations. 

FIBA U17 Skills Challenge 2020

Guinea and Uganda earned the right to represent Africa in the FIBA U17 Skills Challenge, Puerto Rico and Panama accomplished the same feat in Americas, with Mongolia and Thailand claiming tickets in Asia in dramatic fashion. 

Having set the best score (112) among all participating teams in their final on Sunday, Portugal emerged victorious from the European Qualifiers, alongside Belarus.

FIBA U17 Women's Skills Challenge 2020

There was only one place on offer for women in the African Qualifiers and it was secured by Cameroon who bested all other nations in the regional play-in event. Meanwhile, Guatemala and Antigua & Barbuda advanced from Americas by default after other registered national teams were forced to pull out due to local COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. 

In Asia, Lebanon advanced to the Global Challenges without a single defeat, while Thailand scored another dramatic win over Iran in the decider, having done the same in men's qualification. 

Luxembourg and Poland, who recorded the best women’s score in the final with 121, completed the picture by booking tickets via the European Qualifiers on Sunday night.

The FIBA U17 Skills Challenge 2020 and FIBA U17 Women's Skills Challenge 2020 will both take place from August 18-23, 2020.
