One Cinderella, three regulars reach U18 European Championship Semi-Finals

VOLOS (2015 U18 European Championship) - Two-time reigning champions Turkey moved another step closer to a historic three-peat by reaching Semi-Finals at the 2015 U18 European Championship, where they were joined by first-timers Bosnia and Herzegovina, twice champions Lithuania and hosts Greece.

Turkey were inches from losing at the regulation buzzer but ended up prevailing over Serbia 90-79 in overtime. Turkey watched Borisa Simanic's shot bounce on the rim and fall away which would have given the Serbs the victory at the end of regulation.

Furkan Korkmaz collected 21 points and 11 rebounds while Ercan Bayrak scored 16 points for Turkey, who reached the Semis for the third straight year and fifth in the last seven.

The 2014 finalists Serbia bowed out at the Quarter-Final stage despite 16 points from Aleksandar Aranitovic.

Turkey's opponents in the Semis will be Bosnia and Herzegovina, who came back from a 10-point fourth quarter deficit to stun Spain 70-64 and reach the first Semi-Final in the country's history.

Edin Atic was Mr Do-It-All with 28 points, 12 rebounds, five steals and four steals for the Bosnians, who had previously finished eighth at the 2014 U16 European Championship and at EuroBasket 1993.

Spain will face Serbia in the Classification Games 5-8.

Lithuania reached the Semis for the first time since losing the 2012 final by beating Germany 73-71 as Tadas Sedekerskis scored 15 points and Laurynas Birutis collected 15 points and 14 rebounds.

The Lithuanians are two steps from winning their third title and first since 2010.

Lithuania will not have it easy in the final four as they will take on Greece, who beat France 67-59.

Vasileios Charalampopoulos collected a triple-double of 13 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds while Georgios Papagiannis had 21 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks as the Greeks returned to the Semi-Finals for the second straight summer.

France will face Germany in the Classification Games 5-8.

In the relegation fight, Croatia, Latvia, Italy and Russia all locked up spots in the Division A with victories in the Classification Games 9-16.

Croatia got 31 points from Bruno Skokna and Ivica Zubac had a double-double of 22 points and 15 rebounds in an 82-70 win over Czech Republic.

Kristers Zoriks, Verners Kohs and Zigmars Raimo all scored 15 points to lead Latvia to a 68-65 victory over Montenegro.

Italy defeated Ukraine 87-69 thanks to 38 points combined by Riccardo Bolpin and Davide Moretti.

And Timofey Yakushin collected 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and one steal as Russia knocked off Finland 87-64.

The Czechs, Montenegro, Ukraine and Finland enter the Classification Games 13-16 with the one team who wins two straight games remains in the Division A with the other three dropping to Division B.
