Future European stars shine in Lille

LILLE (EuroBasket 2015) - The highly-entertaining FIBA European U18 All-Star Game on Friday afternoon gave the chance to 22 of Europe's most promising young talents to showcase their skills at Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, the imposing stage of EuroBasket 2015 Final Phase.

Team Red surged to an 87-82 win over Team Black as big man Ivica Zubac run the floor and showed off his polished finishing after perceiving a laser pass from Vassilis Charalampapoulos and Frank Ntilikina knocked down a dagger three with just 41 seconds left on the clock.

The spectacular encounter kept the very youthful and extremely enthusiastic crowd- comprising largely of students from local schools - on the edge of their seats throughout, as the lead changed hands a total of 16 times, both sides leading by double-digits at different stages.

The lean power forward Leonardo Tote was voted MVP as he spearheaded several of Team Red's fast breaks and finished with a game-high 23 points on an excellent 9-of-13 from the floor.

"I've never player in an arena as big and beautiful as this," Tote told eurobasket2015.org afterwards.

"It is a great feeling, I did not expect to play in a game like this but I know that I have made a lot of people happy, myself included, so I am very satisfied right now.

"To be honest I don't usually score that much, but I felt in great shape today and the baskets dropped in.

"Sometimes it goes well, other days it doesn't work out but today it was definitely one of those good days.

"It was actually a bit difficult [to play with guys from all over Europe] because we only met yesterday and we did not know each other.

"But in the end we all speak the same language, the language of basketball, so we communicated well enough to even win the game!"

Ntilikina also made a good bid for MVP honours as he had 13 points and a game-high eight assists while Zubac finished with 14 points and six rebounds.

For Team Black, Stephane Gombauld registered a double-double effort of 14 points and 12 rebounds and stole the limelight with two fantastic blocks while Vanja Marinkovicdrilled 3-of-5 three-pointers and collected 17 points.

"I did not realise I had eight assists, I just played my game played for my team and it just happened," Ntilikina told eurobasket2015.org.

"It was very nice to play in this game, I feel blessed to be here with the best players of my age.

"Yesterday the spectators created an incredible atmosphere in this stadium [in the semi-final between France and Spain].

"So when I went out today on this court it felt special.

"It made me dream of the future."
