France hopeful Gomis signs for Toulouse

TOULOUSE (FIBA World Championship for Women/EuroBasket Women 2015) - France's Emilie Gomis is at last ready to start playing basketball games again.

Having spent months at the National Institute of Sport and Physical Education (INSEP) in Paris getting back to full fitness, the 1.80m guard has put pen to paper on a deal with Toulouse.

The 31-year-old, who underwent a knee operation last May but battled back to represent France at the FIBA World Championship for Women, will play the last eight games of the regular season with the team in the French top flight.

Though not at her best physically at Turkey 2014, Gomis was a valuable contributor to the team that defeated Mozambique, Canada and Brazil en route to reaching the Quarter-Finals.

She played in all seven of France's games at the championship, leaving her with 194 caps for her country.

"After three months of rehab at INSEP, I am ready to compete again," Gomis said on her website.

"I am very happy to announce my return to the court in the colours of Toulouse Metropole Basket.

"I was welcomed by a staff that is eager to see the club compete at the highest level, with a young and ambitious team that is looking to find its identity.

"We are aiming to put my national team experience and maturity to the best possible use for the benefit of the group."

Gomis has played in a lot of big games for Les Bleues.

She helped them capture the title at EuroBasket Women 2009 in Latvia, take a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics and finish runners-up at the EuroBasket Women 2013 on home soil.

Eager to be in this year's EuroBasket Women squad to help France fight for an Olympic spot, Gomis felt good about her conditioning and ready to leave l'INSEP.

Now on the books of Toulouse, Gomis will aim to show France coach Valerie Garnier that she will be at her best when the national team players gather after the season to get ready for the continental championship that is being staged in Hungary and Romania.
