MIES, Switzerland - FIBA's Executive Committee convened a meeting on Saturday, November 18, during which it took important decisions across a wide range of topics.

FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers
The Executive Committee approved a global investment of more than €30 million in the first cycle (2017-2021) of FIBA's New Competition System. This involves FIBA meeting core costs of operations including television production - which had previously been a significant cost burden for some National Federations - and providing insurance for all players. Federations representing major TV markets will also benefit from a TV rights redistribution scheme. The remaining participating federations will, for the first time, avail of a minimum contribution thanks to the creation of a solidarity fund. The Executive Committee also approved the principle of allocating prize money to all participating teams at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019.

FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023
Following the visit of delegations representing the four candidates in the running to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2023, the Executive Committee praised the high quality of the bids. The host(s) of the competition will be announced on Saturday, December 9, following a vote by FIBA’s Central Board.

National Federations
The Executive Committee expressed its satisfaction with the efforts made by the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB) and the Mexican Basketball Association (ADEMEBA) and will continue to monitor the situation until the middle of 2018 when it hopes to fully reinstate both bodies.

3x3
Following the historical decision on June 9 to have 3x3 become a part of the Olympic basketball program, starting at the Tokyo 2020 Games, the Executive Committee received an update on the successful activities of FIBA's urban discipline in 2017.

Other important matters included:

• The Executive Committee received an update about FIBA Americas' Regional Office following the devastation of Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria. The office has temporarily relocated to Miami, Florida where it is fully operational;
• It received reports from the Commissions' meetings that took place over the last two months and appointed FIBA's Disciplinary Panel;
• The budget for 2018 was approved and the financial plan for the period 2019-2021 has been acknowledged.
