FIBA Europe Executive Committee approves neutral venue for Israeli clubs home games in FIBA Europe Cup

MUNICH (Germany) - The FIBA Europe Executive Committee held an urgent meeting on Friday and decided that home games of Israeli clubs in the FIBA Europe Cup can be hosted in Cyprus.

Following careful consideration and based on the guarantees provided by the Government of Cyprus, supported by the Cyprus Basketball Federation, the Executive Committee accepted the proposal from the Israeli Basketball Association (IBBA) for Bnei Ofek Dist Herzliya, Hapoel Galil Elion, Ironi Ness Ziona to play their FIBA Europe Cup games in Cyprus under the conditions given by the local authorities.

The decision is the result of continuous efforts by FIBA Europe and the IBBA, whereby the former granted several deadline extensions in order to accommodate the efforts of IBBA and its clubs to find suitable neutral venue to play their home games.

FIBA Europe is in constant communication with the respective opponent clubs and would like to appreciate the solidarity shown by numerous clubs and federations around Europe in order to allow the continuation of the Israeli clubs participation, where the required government guarantees and security measures allow so.

While the games originally scheduled between October 30 and November 3 are planned to proceed according to the initial schedule, subject to the conditions set by the Cypriot authorities being met, FIBA Europe is also actively working to reschedule fixtures that were postponed from Gameday 1 and Gameday 2 as soon as possible.

The FIBA Europe Executive Committee finally decided to cancel the games of Elitzur Landco Ramla in the EuroCup Women, in view of the absence of a proposal by any party for the home games of the club to be played in a neutral venue and the lack of agreement by opponent clubs to host both games.
