Draws results in for FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Qualifiers Zones 2 and 4

ABIDJAN (FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Qualifiers) - The draws for the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Qualifiers in FIBA Africa Zones 2 and 4 took place on Saturday at the FIBA Africa office in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

Following the withdrawal of Cape Verde, the three teams of Zone 2 were drawn into the following group:

Group C:
 Senegal, Mali and Guinea.

Senegal and Mali will fight for two spots in offer for the Final Round

The qualifiers will be played in a tournament played over two legs with the two top teams qualifying for the Final Round in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo (19 -30 August).

Meanwhile, six Zone 4 teams have been drawn into two groups of three teams each and will play a tournament over two legs.

Group E: 
Cameroon, Chad and Gabon.
Group F: Central African Republic, DR Congo and Equatorial Guinea.

The qualifiers will be played in a Round-robin tournament with each team taking on its two opponents. The top team of each group will qualify for this summer’s FIBA AfroBasket.

Dates for the Zone 4 qualifiers are yet to be confirmed.

The draws for Zones 6 and 7 qualifiers will take place at a later date in Maputo, Mozambique.

Additionally, the Zone 1 qualifiers will bring together Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Libya in a tournament played over two legs. The first leg will take place in Algeria (16-18) with the second leg to follow from 30 March-1 April in Tunisia. The teams that finish first and second will qualify for the Final Round.

In Zone 3, five teams - including the Cote d’Ivoire, Benin, Burkina Faso, Niger and Togo - will compete in a tournament over two legs for the only ticket on offer for Brazzaville.

Eight teams of Zone 5 including Egypt, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, Uganda, South Sudan and Kenya will play a round-robin format tournament - from 12-18 March in Cairo, Egypt - to secure the two places for the Final Round.
