AMSTERDAM (EuroBasket Women/FIBA U19 World Championship for Women) - The man who will lead the Netherlands at a second straight FIBA U19 World Championship for Women, Remy de Wit, has this week been given the additional job of coaching the country's senior national team.

The 40-year-old, who has been in charge of the talent development program CTO Amsterdam since 2009, has been a success at the Dutch youth national team level and will now try to bring a new mentality to the senior side.

He coached the Netherlands at the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship for Women in Lithuania, where they came in 10th.

His work with the talent development program in Amsterdam has won De Wit a lot of praise.

"Remy is a very dedicated and passionate coach," said the technical director of the Netherlands Basketball Federation (NBB), Esther Wender.

Remy has an enormous drive to bring Dutch women's basketball to a higher level. - Wender

"We are asking him to turn the national women's team into a European contender. 

"The knowledge and professionalism within the CTO talent program, led by Remy, needs to be translated to our women's program."

There is a lot of excitement about the potential of the Dutch women's team.

In my view, coaching a senior national team is the greatest honor any coach can get. De Wit 

"I'm very honored to get this chance," he said. 

"It's my goal to develop our women's basketball program into a culture in which we deliver results that will improve the position of Dutch women's basketball worldwide."

De Wit's first big test at the helm of the senior team will come in November, when he leads the Dutch in qualifying games for EuroBasket Women 2017.

Before then, however, he will coach the Netherlands at the FIBA U19 Women's World Championship in Chekhov, Russia (18-26 July).
