Busy agenda for FIBA Central Board

TOKYO - FIBA's Central Board is set to meet from Friday 7-Sunday 9 August in Tokyo, Japan and there is no shortage of topics to cover and decisions to be made.

After receiving a warm welcome on Thursday night with an official dinner organised by the Japanese Basketball Association (JBA), the members of the Board have a busy few days ahead of them.

On Friday, they will decide who of the People's Republic of China or the Republic of the Philippines will host the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Over the course of the weekend, the Board will hold discussions on the following matters:

  • Review the suspensions of Japan's Basketball Association (JBA) and the Russia Basketball Federation (RBF)
  • Discuss whether or not to grant automatic places, as hosts, to Brazil's men's and women's national teams in the Olympic Basketball Tournament  the 2016 Rio Games
  • Announce the host countries of the 2016 FIBA U17 World Championships for Men and Women
  • Approve the key regulatory principles for FIBA's new system of competition which comes into effect in 2017
  • Discuss the status of European Club Competitions
  • Provide an update on the plan for National Federations' support
