Amman, Shenzhen confirmed as hosts for Youth Asia Cups in 2024

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office - Asia confirmed the hosts for this year's FIBA U18 Asia Cup and FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup on Tuesday, March 5.

The U18 Asia Cup will be held in Amman, Jordan from 2-9 September, while the U18 Women's Asia Cup will be hosted in Shenzhen, China from 24-30 June.

This will be the fourth time that the U18 Asia Cup will be hosted in West Asia, with Iran hosting the previous 3 editions in 2008, 2016 and 2022.

Korea lifted the trophy for the first time in 22 years after defeating Japan in the Final in Tehran (2022)

Even though it will be Jordan’s first time hosting the U18 Asia Cup, the city of Amman has hosted many competitions in recent years from the U18 Women’s Asia Cup 2014, Women's Asia Cup 2021 to the U16 Women's Asia Cups in 2022 and 2023.

The previous edition of the U18 Asia Cup in Tehran, Iran saw Korea at the top of the podium for the first time in 22 years after an exciting clash against Japan in the Final. It was Korea's fourth U18 Asia Cup triumph in total. China still holds the most U18 Asia Cup wins with 11 while their last title was in 2014.

Meanwhile, the U18 Women’s Asia Cup in Shenzhen will mark the 20th anniversary of the event being hosted in the city. China won their tenth U18 Women's Asia Cup that year and it was also their fifth straight title won at the time.

China will be hoping to get back on top after losing the Final in Bengaluru to Australia (2022)

In total, China, who lead all national teams with 16 titles, has hosted the competition twice with another occasion being in 1992. That U18 Women’s Asia Cup in Beijing was the last time that Korea won the title, their seventh - which stands as second most among all teams.

The previous edition of the competition was held in Bangalore, India in 2022 where Australia won their first U18 Women's Asia Cup in the Final against China, snapping China’s five-consecutive title run.
