VEN - Trotamundos bounce back from Gatos defeat

VALENCIA (Liga Profesional) - Trotamundos stretched their lead at the top of Venezuela's Liga Profesional after winning two of their three games in the past week.

The Carabobo-based team extended their record to 14-5 after two victories over Guaros from Lara, who had been their closest challengers this season, pulled them clear at the summit. Trotamundos began the week in disappointing fashion when they were beaten 85-76 by seventh-placed Gatos, who were led by the 21 points of Terquin Mott.

But they bounced back in the first game of their double header with Guaros as Lawrence Wallace starred with 22 points in a 110-86 success. The return game was much closer but Trotamundos still prevailed 85-83.

Marinos' inactivity in recent weeks - they have been on Liga Sudamericana duty - has seen them drop down to fourth, with Gaiteros from Zulia moving into second place in the table. Their record now stands at 11-8 following a 115-94 win over Guaiquiries in their only game of the week.

Luis Julio and Ruben Nembhard contributed 56 points between them for Gaiteros in Maracaibo. Marinos, now playing catch-up with their fixtures, beat Panteras twice this weekend, 110-83 on Saturday and 91-85 on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Cocodrilos suffered two consecutive reverses to Gatos from Monaga, following up their 98-91 defeat on Saturday with a 89-87 loss 24 hours later.
