VEN - Braveheart Wallace fires Delfines to title in Venezuela

MIRANDA (Liga Nacional) – Lawrence Wallace’s last-gasp three-pointer secured a 96-94 victory over Macizos to clinch the Liga Nacional title for Delfines.

The nailbiting victory secured the Miranda-based team an unassailable 4-1 lead in the best-of-seven final series and made sure of a fifth championship success in six years.

With the game poised at 94-93 in Macizos’ favour with just a couple of seconds left on the clock, Wallace produced a wonderful shot from distance to deny the visitors the opportunity to take the series to a sixth game.

“It was incredible. We were losing and we had only two seconds [to save it]. I had space and I shot. It was great,” said a clearly delighted Wallace after the game.

Richard Lugo, who shone for Venezuela at the FIBA World Championship, was game five’s star performer, pouring in 23 points, while team-mates Alex Quiroz and Hector Romero netted 21 and 20 points, respectively.

David Cedeno top scored for Macizos with 19 points.
