USA - Americans’ roster deadline pushed back by Olympic Committee

NEW YORK (Olympics) - USA Basketball have been given some extra time by their National Olympic Committee to announce the final squad that will compete in the Men's Olympic Basketball Tournament at the London Games.

A rash of injuries led to the American decision to add Oklahoma City star James Harden and NCAA Champion Anthony Davis of the Kentucky Wildcats to their list of finalists for the 12 spots.

According to a report in USA Today, the original deadline of 18 June to submit the roster to the US Olympic Committee has been pushed back to 8 July - a couple of days before the start of the Americans' training camp in Las Vegas.

All national teams - both men and women - competing at the Olympic Basketball Tournaments in London must submit their final 12-player rosters on the morning of 27 July.

As for the comments by two-time Olympian Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat that his health has to come first and that he might be unable to play in London if not 100% fit, USA Basketball chairman Colangelo said: "If we have a player, whoever it might be, and some really aggravated situation, and he feels he might be unable to go, then he's not going. That's the way it has to be.

"Their health comes first. We need people who are healthy and want to be there. That's a pretty simple criteria."

Wade and the Miami Heat hold a 3-1 lead in their Eastern Conference first round play-off series against the New York Knicks.

After appearing in 49 regular season games, Wade has played in all four of the Heat's play-off encounters, averaging 35.3 minutes per contest.
