RUS - Russia open warm-up games with a win

MOSCOW (2010 FIBA World Championship) - Russia cruised to a 89-68 victory over Latvia in their first warm-up game ahead of the FIBA World Championship.

Russia started strongly and held a 24-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. Latvia closed the gap to three by half-time, but Russia reeled off a 27-10 run after the break to take control of the game.

Vitaly Fridzon led Russia with 13 points while Alexei Zhukanenko added 11 and Nikita Kurbanov had 10.

Janis Strelnieks led Latvia with 13 points in their final game before the start of the EuroBasket qualifying campaign. 

Russia will now travel to Cyprus to take part in a tournament next weekend involving Croatia, Greece and Germany.
