PUR - Frayles shoot to the top in Puerto Rico

GUAYAMA (BSN) - Guayama based side Frayles have climbed to the top of the Puerto Rican BSN league after three impressive wins in a week.

The triumphs took their seasonal record to 10-4 and helped them overhaul Caguas-based Criollos. Monty Wilson was the star turn, netting a total of 57 points during the week to fire Frayles to their three wins.

The first victory came over rock-bottom Titanes from Morovis, who were on the end of a 101-79 thrashing, in which Wilson scored 20 points. He then added another 18 two days later to help them to an 84-82 triumph over Vaqueros from Bayamon, before adding another 19 points as Jose 'Pepo' Martinez's side rounded off the week with an 85-78 triumph over Atleticos from San German.

Criollos slipped from the top spot after suffering an 89-87 defeat to Grises on Thursday and then falling to a 95-85 reverse to Titanes, despite 32 points from Bobby Brannen. It was Brannen's second 32-point haul of the week, with the other coming in a 93-91 win over Conquistadores on Wednesday.

Grises' win over the former leaders came in the middle of a successful week for them, as they also beat the Guaynabo-based Conquistadores, by 102-95, and saw off fifth-placed Cangrejeros from Santurce 99-98. Ponce-based Leones are also flying high with 10 wins from their 15 games, and they too collected three wins this week, starting with a 94-92 victory over the reigning champions Capitanes from Arecibo.

On Thursday, Manolo Cintron's team saw off Maratonistas from Coamo 65-64 with 17 points from Puerto Rico international Eddie Casiano, and they were at it again on Sunday, claiming a 74-64 victory over Atleticos from San German.

Cangrejeros also beat the defending champions on Monday by 83-81 which coupled with a 76-74 win over Maratonistas and a 84-72 triumph over Titanes leaves them in fifth place. Also on Monday, 2005 runners-up Vaqueros beat Maratonistas 97-75. Franklyn Western and Alejandro 'Bimbo' Carmona netted 27 points to leave Vaqueros in seventh.
