GER - Alba back on top in in Germany

BERLIN (Bundesliga) - Alba Berlin regained the top spot in the German BBL league after a 73-64 comeback victory over Ratiopharm Ulm.

Chris Owens collected 16 points, six rebounds and five assists as Alba overcame a 10-point deficit to beat Ulm with a 26-7 point haul in the final period.

Owens also added three blocked shots and two assists while Johannes Herber scored 13 points filling in for injured captain Will Avery.

Head coach Henrik Rodl admitted his team were showing the strain after also advancing to the last 16 of the ULEB Cup.

He said: "We looked like a team that's also playing in European competition. We're a bit weak right now.

“In addition, Will (Avery) is banged up and integrating Jovo (Stanojevic) takes time.

"But it was very promising how we fought to turn around the game in the fourth quarter."

Bryan Lucas came off the bench to lead Ulm with 17 points while Jonathan Levy added 13.

Second-placed Ludwigsburg lost pole positions after losing on the road to Giessen 76-71 in overtime.

Michel Nascimento made one of two free throws with just 28 seconds left in regulation time to tie the game at 64-64.

In overtime, Trotter sunk a three-pointer and hit a lay-up to give Giessen a 74-71 lead with 17 seconds remaining before Rouven Roessler stole and buried two more foul shots.

Ludwigsburg coach Silvano Poropat said: "Giessen just wanted to win the game more and you can see that in the result and also in the rebounds, which we clearly lost.

"We were just missing that extra little bit. Usually that last shot goes in."

Trotter had 22 points for Giessen, but Miljan Goljovic top-scored with 23 for Ludwigsburg.

Meanwhile, reigning champions RheinEnergie Koln beat TBB Trier 84-78 thanks to 18 points by Aleksandar Nadjfeji and 17 from Demond Mallet - both in a reserve role.

Darius Hall scored 23 points as Artland Dragons beat Sellbytel Nurnberg 101-76 and 2005 champions Brose Baskets Bamberg moved into a play-off position after a 90-77 victory at Eisbaren Bremerhaven.

Telekom Baskets Bonn lost at Bayer Giants Leverkusen, who won thanks to 20 points from Brandon Woudstra, while Travon Bryant's 16 points led five players in double figures in Deutsche Bank Skyliners' 76-70 home victory against EWE Baskets Oldenburg.

Rasko Katic registered his third double-double in four games with 21 points and 16 rebounds as Walter Tigers Tubingen secured a 76-64 home win against Paderborn Baskets.
