EUROLEAGUE – Final Four date will not change

BARCELONA (Euroleague) – The Euroleague on Tuesday morning announced that the date of next month’s Final Four will not change, even though it coincides with Yom Hazikaron (Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day) - a day on which Israeli law does not allow nationals to participate in any sporting event.

On Monday afternoon, the Euroleague announced they had received a document from Israeli giants Maccabi Tel Aviv expressing concern over the scheduling of the event (May 6-8).

The Euroleague said on Tuesday morning: “Fans, as some of you may know, a qualified team has expressed its concern over the scheduling of the Final Four.

“Euroleague Basketball wants all fans to know that though it is evaluating this situation and will take a decision soon prioritizing what is the best for the competition, its clubs and fans as a whole, but would like for all fans to be assured that the date of the Final Four will in no way change.

“Euroleague Basketball will prioritize and respect the following and commitment that fans have shown by investing their time and money to come and enjoy the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four.”

Maccabi Tel Aviv advanced to the Final Four with a 3-1 quarter-final series triumph over Caja Laboral.

Panathinaikos and Montepaschi Siena have also clinched their places at the Final Four with their respective 3-1 series triumphs over Regal Barcelona and Olympiacos.

Real Madrid host Power Electronics Valencia in Game 5 of their quarter-final series on Thursday.
