ESP - Our Lady of Abandoned Ones

VALENCIA (Eurocup) - Power Electronics Valencia returned home from Vitoria, Spain, to big celebrations on Monday after beating Alba Berlin 67-44 in the Eurocup Final

In the time-honored tradition of championship-winning sides in Spain, the Valencia team also went to church.

Finals MVP Matt Nielsen and team captain Victor Claver carried the Eurocup to the Plaza de la Virgen and then entered the Basilica, where they offered the cup to Our Lady of the Abandoned Ones.

Nielsen, who will represent Australia at the FIBA World Championship in Turkey, will now play in the Euroleague if he signs a new contract with Valencia.

“Teams don't get much closer than this one,” he said.

“It's been such an enjoyable experience.

“We deserved it and the fans deserved it for helping us all the way. I'm happy it's all gone this way."
