ESP/BRA - Marcelinho does it again

VALENCIA (Liga Endesa) - Brazil's Marcelinho Huertas is always the man for the big occasion.

The Barcelona point guard, whose game-winner from close to mid-court in the 2012 Liga Endesa Finals against Real Madrid propelled Barca to that season's title, made another buzzer-beater on Sunday to give the Catalans a 77-75 triumph at Valencia in the fifth and deciding game of their Semi-Final showdown.

The 31-year-old had 22 points and nine assists and played all 40 minutes.

"Individual achievements and numbers don't serve for anything if the team doesn't win," Marcelinho said.

He will now lead Barcelona into another Finals battle against Real, a best-of-five 'El Clasico' that tips off in Madrid on Thursday.

Real beat Barcelona in last year's championship series.

They also defeated Barca in a thrilling Copa del Rey Final in February and at the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four a month ago.

Valencia, winners of the 2014 Eurocup and the side that finished second to Real in the Liga Endesa this season, lost the first two games of the Semi-Finals at home to Barcelona but then stole the momentum with victories in Games 3 and 4 at the Palau Blaugrana.

They played extremely well on Sunday and built a nine-point lead at half-time, but Marcelinho's play helped keep his team within striking distance.

In the fourth quarter, Barcelona went in front but Valencia ended up knotting the game at 75-75 with a basket from Romain Sato just 6.8 seconds from the death.

After a timeout, Marcelinho dribbled towards the basket and scored with a runner.

"In the end, I was able to find a shot from mid-range that I like towards the backboard and thankfully, it went in and I was able to help the team qualify for the Finals," he said.

Marcelinho, who played 29 and 27 minutes in Games 2 and 3, was on the court for all 40 minutes on Sunday.

"There was no planning prior to the game with regards to the fact that I would play a lot or not," he said.

"Things started to go well and I've been able to set the rhythm of the team.

"The coach (Xavier Pascual) saw that I was in the game, with confidence and he gave me that trust.

"It could have gone badly but when a player is hot, you try to get the best out of him.

"I'm happy that things have gone well but more so that the team has won and qualified."

Marcelinho made seven of his 10 shots inside the arc and two of four beyond it.

He seemed energized by a jam-packed, La Fonteta Arena crowd of 8,500 fans that was making plenty of noise.

"It's the first time I have played 40 minutes with Barca," he said.

"I also remember that I played (40 minutes) a game with the national team in 2011. I think those two are the only times in my career where I have played so many minutes."

Marcelinho, who will play point guard for Brazil at the FIBA Basketball World Cup, did not beat Valencia on his own.

Croatia center Ante Tomic had his struggles in the Semi-Finals but ended strong with 20 points and eight rebounds.

For Valencia, Sato had 17 points, Liga Endesa MVP Justin Doellman a team-high 18 and Ukraine center Serhiy Lishchuk eight points and six rebounds.
