CHN - Sun Fengwu looks for improvement

VANCOUVER (Olympics) - China's women are looking to build some confidence as Canada host them in three games this week.

The teams are meeting in the Jack Donohue International Classic.

The Chinese were soundly beaten by the United States in a friendly played in Seattle over the weekend.

China coach Sun Fengwu said: “For us, I think it (being in Canada) is a good opportunity to train our team, especially on defense.

“We need to see improvement on defense, the physical game and scrambling for the ball.

"We are at a disadvantage in our bodyweight and height compared to the American and Canadian teams."

China fell 65-61 to Canada at the 2010 FIBA World Championship in the Czech Republic.

The Canadians are getting ready for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Ankara, Turkey, while the Chinese have already secured their spot in the London Games.

That was accomplished last year when the Chinese won the gold medal at the FIBA Asia Championship.

China clinched a fourth-place finish at the Beijing Games, so expectations are high back home going into this summer's competition in London.

At the Olympics, they will play the United States, Angola and three countries that come out of the OQT.

“As far as pressure is concerned, we face pressure every time in competitive sports, especially for us as a national team," Sun said.

"The Chinese people have very high expectations of us and we have high expectations of ourselves.”
