CHN – Xinjiang wrest back lead with overwhelming win

BEIJING (CBA) - Regular season champions Xinjiang Flying Tigers on Wednesday wrested back the lead in the 2011 CBA Finals with a comprehensive 118-85 rout of defending champions Guangdong Tigers in Game 3.

Xinjiang had won Game 1 of the best-of-seven Finals last Friday and Guangdong bounced back to level the series winning Game 2 on Sunday.

Xinjiang scored the first five points of the game and were never under any real threat

Quincy Douby (pictured), who had a 53-point explosion in the series opener, scored a game-high 28 points, hitting 13 of 15 free-throws.

Fellow American James Singleton added 20 points and eight rebounds for Xinjiang, with Mengke Bateer acccounting for 16 points and the pair of Zhang QingPeng and Co Tal chipped in with 11 points each.

Marcus Haislip was Guangdong’s leading scorer with 19 points.

Wang ShiPeng, hero of Guangdong’s resurgent victory in Game 2, was held to 17 points and shot just two of seven from beyond the arc.

Lester Hudson had 16 points and Su Wei 14.

“We built a sound defense after losing Game 2,” said Xinjiang’s coach Jiang Xingquan.

“We deserve the 33-point victory which shows our power and potential."

“We did not play our best, even could not reach our training level,” Guangdong’s coach Li Chunjiang said.

The defending champions never had a chance to gain parity, while Xinjiang was keeping a rapid pace to stretch their advantage.

“It is our psychological condition that led to such a massacre, but we could afford it and get rid of it, for we won six championships and now we are still the champions,” said Li.

The Finals move to Guangdong for Game 4 (Friday) and Game 5 (Sunday) and will return to Xinjiang for Game 6 if necessary.
