ARG - Quinteros hails Argentina's winning mentality

SALTA (2010 FIBA World Championship) - Paulo Quinteros believes the winning attitude in the Argentina squad can take them far at the FIBA World Championship.

The Basket Zaragoza guard spoke to reporters after training in Salta as the team continue their preparations for the tournament in Turkey, which is now less than a month away.

"This group has already proven what they can do for the country and we have the desire to go for more," Quinteros said. "We do not feel pressure, just a constant desire to win.

"We have players who are succeeding in different leagues around the world and that is an extra plus. We all learn something new and are improved by that.

"In the short term what we want to do is keep training, correct our errors, and refine the details so we can have a good World Championship."

Before then, Argentina will play in the Bicentennial edition of the Super 4 with Brazil, Puerto Rico and Uruguay to continue their preparations, and guard Hernan Jasen is looking forward to the experience.

"We must be patient, as it is the first tournament and there are a few days of training first," he said. "The key is to go slowly and feel better and gain understanding. We must not go crazy because it is the beginning, and the first thing is to prepare well, take advantage of these games and gain confidence.

"Obviously we will try to win for the people of Salta because we want to give our best performance."

Meanwhile, Argentina have confirmed that they have paid the insurance money on captain Luis Scola's NBA contract. Fees for Andres Nocioni and Carlos Delfino had already been paid, meaning all three are now clear to play in Turkey.
